Thank you for your interest in faculty appointment within the Department of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). This webpage (adapted from official memo) contains the list of required items and an overview of the steps necessary to obtain an appointment at the faculty rank of Teaching Fellow.




Step 1

Register for USU SSO Account

Note: Have your CAC Card ready for this process.


Step 2

Write body of

Directly to and cc Ms. Eliza Narvaez and


Body of Email:

  • Home mailing address (used for mailing all official documentation)

  • Work mailing address

  • Mobile phone

  • Email address (actively monitored to receive correspondence)

  • Date of birth

  • Date of expected graduation from residency


Step 3

Attach to aforementioned e-Mail

Required Items:

  1. Full CV - AAMC Format
    Example. Please include Undergrad and Advanced Degrees, Licensure, Board Certs, Publications, and Experience Educating Medical Students.

  2. Letter of Recommendation from Local Department Chair or Program Director.

  3. Command Endorsement (not required for billeted USU Faculty of non-DOD applicants)

E-mail Althea Scott and request a USU Psych Clerkship Sakai account.

Access to USU Remote library

Send an e-mail to LRC Services requesting for Remote Library access after you have set up the account as per above.

Maintaining a USU Faculty Appointment

  • Signing and returning your faculty appointment acceptance letter.

    • All required items (listed above) are submitted to Dept. of Psychiatry to review and approve or decline. If declined, you will receive notification and reasons for decline. If accepted, you will receive notification by email and your documents will be sent to USU Human Resources. You will be contacted if clarifying information is required by Human Resources, who will then process your faculty appointment. Once processed, you will receive a letter from USU CHR requesting your signature to accept a faculty appointment; this letter MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED to Human Resources to finalize your appointment.

  • Receiving your Faculty Appointment Certificate.

    • Once your signed acceptance letter is received by Human Resources and your appointment is finalized, you will receive a certificate from Human Resources confirming your faculty appointment. If you have not received your certificate within 60 days of returning your signed letter, please call Ms. Henderson (301-295-9429) or Ms. Bell at (301-295-9425) to inquire on the status, and contact Ms. Cato for any further assistance.​

  • Updating your mailing address, phone, and email​

    • ​Human Resources verifies your faculty activities in support of the Department on a 3-year cycle. Verification is required for you to maintain a faculty appointment so please update your contact information with the Department of Psychiatry AND with CHR whenever your email or address changes
